# How do I create a new user account in TrooTrax?

User accounts are created from the Admin tab. You need to be an administrator, or a user with the appropriate permissions, to create an account.

### Create the account

1. Select **Admin \> Users** from the main menu. The User List screen is shown.
2. Select **Create**.
3. Enter the user's login name in the **Login ID** field. This field is required.
4. Leave **Active** selected to mark the user as active in the system. It is selected by default.
5. Enter the **First name** and **Last name**.
6. Enter a password in the **Password** field, then enter it again in **Re-enter Password**.
7. Select **Can change password** if the user should be able to change their own password.
8. Set the password expiry. Either enter a date as mm-dd-yyyy in the **Expires** field, select one from the calendar, or select **Never** if the password should not expire.
9. Select an **Access Level** from the drop-down list.
10. Enter the user's **E-Mail** address and **phone number**.
11. Select the role the user will take on from the **Roles** list. To assign more than one role, hold **Ctrl** and select each role you need.
12. Select **Create**. The new user is added to the User List screen.

**Important:** Roles determine everything a user can see in TrooTrax. If no role is selected, the user will still be able to log in, but will see a blank screen.

How roles work

A role, also referred to as a group, sets what a user can see. Under **Admin \> Roles** it combines tabs, such as View, Plan and Reports, with the subfolders beneath them, such as weather map, flight map and event log. A user needs both the tab and the subfolder to see the subfolder.

Which aircraft a role can see is set separately, under **Admin \> Permissions Manager**. See [How do I create a role and control what a user can see in TrooTrax?](https://go.skytrac.ca/knowledge/how-do-i-create-a-role-and-control-what-a-user-can-see-in-trootrax)

Choosing an access level

The access level is a numerical ranking from 1 to 10, where **1 is the highest and 10 is the lowest**. A user with a lower number can see all other users, and their assigned assets, at an equal or higher number. A level 2 user sees everything except level 1.

This limits administrators too. A level 2 user with Admin privileges cannot delete a level 1 account.
