How do I make a call from the aircraft?
Calling from the aircraft works differently from a normal phone. Every call starts with 00, whether you are calling another satellite phone or an ordinary landline or mobile.
Calling another Iridium satellite phone
00 - 8816 - XXXXXXXX
Calling an ordinary landline or mobile
00 - country code - number
Example: For the United States and Canada
00 - 1 - XXX - XXX - XXXX
The country code is always the code for the country you are calling, not the country you are flying over. Every country has its own code, and your telephone provider or any international dialing reference can confirm it.
To check that dialing is working
Call the Iridium test line:
00 - 881631110006
If the test line connects, the unit and the airtime are working.
Countries where calls to satellite phones are restricted
Calls to Iridium numbers are restricted or blocked in the following countries:
Bangladesh, Chad, China, Cuba, India, Libya, Myanmar, Nigeria, North Korea, Russia, Sri Lanka and Sudan.
Iridium phones are permitted in Russia, but they must be specially registered.
