# How do I send and receive messages with an aircraft in WebSentinel?

Messages are sent and read in the Messaging panel, which always applies to the aircraft currently selected.

### Send a message

1. Select the aircraft, either on the map or in the Aircraft List.
2. Open the Messaging panel. You can also select the messaging icon in the Aircraft Details panel to open it for that aircraft.
3. Enter your message in the text box at the bottom of the panel.
4. Select Send.

### Read messages from the aircraft

The Messaging panel holds the message history for the selected aircraft. Messages are colour coded by direction:

- **Green.** Sent to the aircraft.
- **Blue.** Received from the aircraft.

### Request a response straight away

Aircraft report on a set interval, for example every 5 or 20 minutes. If you need a response before the next report is due, select Poll. This asks the aircraft to respond immediately rather than waiting for its next scheduled report.

If you are unable to send or view messages, your account needs the Text Messaging permission, and the aircraft must be included in your aircraft visibility. Your administrator can check both.
