# What do the aircraft icons and status colours mean on the TrooTrax map?

On the TrooTrax map each aircraft is shown as an icon. Both the icon itself and the halo around it carry meaning.

### What the halo colours mean

| Inflight, green halo | The aircraft is on a trip and moving. |
| --- | --- |
| Stationary, pink halo | The aircraft is not moving, but is not yet inactive on the map. |
| Stationary, no halo | The aircraft is not moving and is inactive. |
| N/A, no halo | The aircraft has not transmitted data for a long time, has suddenly lost GPS, or has stopped transmitting while moving and its active status has ended. |

A halo is shown when an aircraft is active, or has been active within the period defined in the Device Display preferences.

### Why the icon type matters

Icons are not simply pictures. Each one has rules associated with it, and the icon assigned to an asset affects the state that is reported. An aircraft should therefore always be given an aircraft icon, otherwise its state may be reported incorrectly.

### How alerts appear

Aircraft alerts are shown in full in the Events stack. When an aircraft sends an event that is considered an alert, a coloured icon also appears on the map, in some cases flashing and in some cases with an audible alert, depending on how notifications have been configured. A small flashing icon appears alongside that aircraft in the asset list.

To change the icon or colour assigned to an aircraft, see [How do I change an aircraft's icon, colour and track colour in TrooTrax?](https://go.skytrac.ca/knowledge/how-do-i-change-an-aircrafts-icon-colour-and-track-colour-in-trootrax)
