title: Why are my Sky Connect position reports showing as FORWARDED_MESSAGE?
description: A steady stream of FORWARDED_MESSAGE reports means multi-position (burst) reporting is failing on the unit. Setting multi-position reporting back to 1 restores normal tracking.

# Why are my Sky Connect position reports showing as FORWARDED\_MESSAGE?

Continuous FORWARDED\_MESSAGE reports are caused by multi-position (burst) reporting failing on the unit. This is a known issue affecting certain Sky Connect units. Begin by checking the message type in Asset Manager, as it is the quickest way to confirm the cause.

## First, check the message type in Asset Manager

All Sky Connect units send their reports to Asset Manager, which then forwards them to your tracking platform. Checking Asset Manager confirms whether the unit is sending usable position data.

Navigate to **History \> Historic Info**, select the affected aircraft and load a recent date range. Then review the **Msg Type** column.

**SCHED or SCHED\_MULTI with latitude and longitude values:** the unit is reporting normally and this article does not apply. Contact us using the details below.

**FORWARDED\_MESSAGE on every report:** this is the cause. Continue below.

Because these reports are reaching Asset Manager, the unit, antenna and airtime are working. The cause is therefore the multi-position reporting setting on the unit, not a loss of connection.

## Next, select the option that describes your situation

The resolution is to set multi-position reporting to 1. The unit then reverts to standard single-position reports, which your tracking platform can display. Each report will contain one position per reporting interval, without the intermediate points that multi-position reporting provides.

**My account includes Over The Air Programming**

1. Navigate to **Asset Management \> Deployed Assets Finder** and select the affected aircraft.
2. Navigate to **Asset Management \> Over The Air Programming**.
3. Enter the tracker password. The default password is **admin**.
4. Set **Multi-Position** reporting to **1**.
5. Select **Send Changes**, and confirm that the message box indicates the change has been sent.
6. Power on the aircraft outside with a clear view of the sky within 48 hours, so the unit can receive the change. If the unit does not receive it within this period, the change must be sent again.

**My account includes Over The Air Programming, but my tracker is on older software**

Over the air programming requires tracker software later than revision 5.0. A tracker on an earlier revision does not accept changes sent from Asset Manager, so the setting must be changed directly on the unit.

**Tracker 3 and Tracker 3A**

1. Power on the tracker with the Ethernet cable disconnected, and wait for **wwwOK** to appear on the display.
2. Connect a laptop to the tracker's Ethernet port and open the Tracker Setup web page.
3. On the **Info** page, confirm the software revision of the tracker.
4. Open the **Tracking** page and set **Multi Position Reporting** to **1**.
5. Select **Save Changes**, and confirm that the page indicates the save was successful.
6. Disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cycle the tracker.

**Tracker II**

The change is made with the Tracker Setup Software by your installer or maintenance provider. Contact us if you need assistance arranging this.

**My account does not include Over The Air Programming**

If **Over The Air Programming** does not appear in the **Asset Management** menu, your account does not have access to this feature. Contact us and we will send the change on your behalf. Once the change has been sent, power on the aircraft outside with a clear view of the sky so the unit can receive it.

Once the unit receives the change, new reports in Historic Info will show a Msg Type of **SCHED** with latitude and longitude values, and the aircraft will display on your tracking platform again. If FORWARDED\_MESSAGE reports continue after an over the air change, the tracker may be on older software, or its password may have been changed from the default.

## If the issue remains unresolved

Email [support@skytrac.ca](mailto:support@skytrac.ca) or call [+1 (250) 765-2393](tel:+12507652393) with the following:

- Unit serial number, IMEI and aircraft registration
- Tracker software revision, if known
- The date and time (UTC) the reports changed to FORWARDED\_MESSAGE
- Whether the multi-position change has been sent, and how (over the air or on the unit)
- The tracking platform you use

Most of these details will be available from the checks above.
