How do I change/update an aircraft's call sign in SkyWeb?
An aircraft's call sign is set against the unit in Hardware Management. The most common reason to change it is a unit swap: when a transceiver is replaced, the replacement needs the aircraft's call sign assigned to it so the aircraft continues to appear correctly in flight following.
Before you begin
This is done in Hardware Management, which requires the Hardware Management: Full Access role. Your SkyWeb Program Manager holds this by default.
If Hardware Management appears greyed out for you, your account does not have the role. Contact your Program Manager, who can either make the change for you or grant you the access.
Changing the call sign
- Log in to SkyWeb and go to Hardware Management, then Hardware Configuration.
- Search for the unit and select it.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click Aircraft Info.
- Enter the new call sign in the Company Callsign field.
- Click Submit.
What to expect after the change
- The change applies to everyone in your organisation who views that aircraft, not only to your own account.
- Position data will not appear under the new call sign until the unit is next powered up and sending reports. The aircraft may appear to be missing in the meantime.
- Previous position reports stay associated with the previous call sign. After a unit swap, history from before the swap remains under the unit that was removed.
- Submit sends the new settings to the unit. The unit must be powered up within four days to receive them, otherwise the request expires and will need to be submitted again.
