How do I connect to my Tracker 3A using Ethernet?
The Tracker 3A has a built-in web page called Tracker Setup, which can be opened from a laptop through the tracker's Ethernet port. No software is required. Begin with the power up sequence, as connecting the cable at the wrong time can stop the tracker from starting normally.
First, power on the tracker without the Ethernet cable
While the tracker is starting up, it is not ready to accept a connection. If the cable is connected at power up, the tracker can enter a software loading mode and will not start normally.
wwwOK appears in the status line on the display: the tracker is ready. Continue below.
The display is not visible: wait 120 seconds after power up, then continue below.
Next, connect your laptop
Before connecting, disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your laptop and close any programs that use the network heavily. Google Chrome is the recommended browser.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from your laptop to the RJ-45 port on the tracker.
- Wait for your laptop to show a new network, usually within 30 seconds. It may have a generic name and show "no internet access." This is expected.
- Open Chrome and go to http://t3/info.
Then select the option that describes what you see.
The Info page has loaded
The Info page shows the IMEI and SIM number for each modem, signal strength, GPS source and position, software versions and the status of each button. It refreshes every 15 seconds.
The other pages are ARINC429, Tracking, FDM, Dialer/Button, Volume, Cellular and AHRS. If you change a setting, select Save Changes and confirm that the page indicates the save was successful before leaving it. Some changes only take effect after a power cycle.
The page is still loading
On the first connection, the page downloads its style sheet from the tracker, which can take up to 5 minutes. Your browser may show that it is downloading a proxy script, or show no indication at all. Allow the page to continue loading. Later connections will be much faster unless the browser cache is cleared.
My laptop does not detect a network
Do not open the browser until your laptop shows a network. Confirm the cable is fully seated at both ends, and that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are disabled. If no network appears, disconnect the cable, power cycle the tracker, and repeat the steps above, connecting only once wwwOK appears on the display.
The display is blank or the tracker appears frozen
This occurs when the tracker is powered on with the Ethernet cable already connected. It is a known software issue, not a hardware fault.
- Power off the tracker.
- Disconnect the Ethernet cable.
- Power the tracker back on.
- Wait until the display shows normal startup information.
- Reconnect the Ethernet cable.
