How do I create a role and control what a user can see in TrooTrax?
What a user can see in TrooTrax is controlled in two places. A role sets which screens they get. The Permissions Manager sets which aircraft they get. A user assigned to a role inherits both.
Both are set up from the Admin tab. You need to be an administrator, or a user with the appropriate permissions, to use either.
Step 1: Create the role
- Select Admin > Roles from the main menu. The Roles List screen is shown.
- Select Create.
- Enter a name for the role in the Name field, for example Kelowna Branch. The name cannot match an existing role.
- Select the permissions the role should have. Roles combine tabs, such as View, Plan and Reports, with the subfolders beneath them, such as weather map, flight map and event log.
- Filter the user list if it is long, then select the users who will be associated with the role.
- Select Create. The new role is added to the Roles List screen.
Step 2: Give the role access to aircraft
- Select Admin > Permissions Manager from the main menu. The ACL Manager screen is shown.
- Select what you want to control from the Manage drop-down list. The options are Assets, Landmarks, Notification Lists, Reports, Routes, Route Locations and Rest API. Select Assets to control which aircraft a group can see.
- Select the group from the Group drop-down list. The line beneath the drop-downs confirms what you are editing, for example "Check Assets you want to be accessed by Admins group under".
- If the list is long, use the filter at the top right. Choose a match type such as Starts with, enter your text, then select Filter.
- Set the access for each aircraft. Select the checkboxes on a row to set access aircraft by aircraft, or select the checkbox in a column heading to apply that access to every item in the list.
- Select Save. To discard your changes instead, select Reset.
Example
Say you have created a role called Kelowna Branch and you now want to set which aircraft it can see. In both cases, select Assets from the Manage list and Kelowna Branch from the Group list first.
- To let the group see the whole fleet, select the checkbox in the Read column heading. This applies Read access to every aircraft in the list at once. Then select Save.
- To let the group see only certain aircraft, leave the column heading clear and select Read against each aircraft they should see. Any aircraft left unselected will not appear for that group. Then select Save.
To set access for everything at once rather than row by row, select Bulk. This consolidates all records into a single row. Select Detail to return to the row by row view.
What each access level means
| Read | The group or user can view the asset. |
| Edit | The group or user can change the asset configuration and confirm events. |
| Delete | The group or user can delete the item. |
| ACL | The group or user can configure the Access Control List for the asset. This allows them to control access to the asset for all users below their access level. |
| OTA Config | Over the Air configuration. Allows the user to change device configuration over a wireless network connection while the device is deployed in the field. |
Not every column is available on every account. Where a column is greyed out, it cannot be set from your login.
Editing or deleting a role
To edit a role, select the Edit icon next to it on the Roles List screen, enable or disable permissions, add or remove users, then select Save.
To delete a role, select the Delete icon next to it, then select YES on the confirmation screen.
