How do I send and receive messages with my RockAIR?

The RockAIR sends and receives email and SMS messages through the RockCONNECT app on your phone or tablet, connected to the unit over Bluetooth. Messages go over cellular where there is coverage and over the Iridium satellite network where there is not, so they work anywhere in the world.

Before you start

Messaging has to be enabled for you first. Email support@skytrac.ca with your name and email address, and we will send you your RockAIR messaging credentials.

Then, with the app connected to the RockAIR, select Enable Messaging from the main menu, enter the username and password we sent you, and select Enable Messaging again to confirm.

Use one set of credentials per mobile device. If other people need messaging, contact us and we will create additional accounts for them.

Send a message

  1. From the main menu, select Send Message.
  2. The app asks whether it can use your phone's contact list. Either answer is fine.
  3. Enter where the message is going:
    • Email: enter the email address.
    • SMS: enter the full number including country and area code, with no spaces or symbols. For example, 17802341234.
  4. Type your message and send it.

Messages arrive at the destination within a few minutes. An SMS is delivered from a temporary number, which the recipient can reply to for the next 24 hours.

Ignore the credit warning. The app shows a pop-up saying the message will use a credit. SKYTRAC provides unlimited messaging, so you are never charged for it, and the My Account section of the app can be ignored.

Receive messages

Messages you receive appear in the Inbox in the app, and messages you have sent are in the Outbox.

To send a message to your RockAIR from the ground, email:

yourusername@connect.rock7.com

where yourusername is your RockAIR messaging username. Anyone who receives an email from you can also simply reply using the link in that email.

If a message to the RockAIR comes back as undeliverable

This usually means the unit has not yet connected to the network, so there is no route to it. Power the RockAIR on and give it time to report a position, then send the message again.

Current limitations

Messages are sent and received through the RockCONNECT app. TrooTrax can display a message sent from a RockAIR, but you cannot currently reply to it from within TrooTrax. Messaging from TrooTrax is in development and planned for a future release.

The RockAIR is a tracking and messaging device. It does not provide satellite voice calling.
