How do I send and receive text messages with an aircraft in TrooTrax?

TrooTrax supports two-way text messaging with aircraft fitted with a compatible device, directly from the map.

Send a message to an aircraft

  1. Select View from the top menu, then select the aircraft from the Assets list.
  2. Select the text message icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the asset list, or right-click the aircraft and select Send Message.
  3. The messaging panel opens on the right of the map. Enter your message and send it. The character limit is displayed on screen.

View messages received from an aircraft

Messages received from the aircraft are displayed in the same messaging panel, alongside those you have sent.

The Text Messages icon at the bottom of the map changes colour to indicate that unread messages have arrived.

If the Send Message option is disabled, two-way messaging has not been enabled for that aircraft. Please contact your administrator, or our support team at support@skytrac.ca.

Enabling two-way messaging (administrators)
  1. Select Admin > Assets from the main menu.
  2. Locate the aircraft in the list and select Edit.
  3. Open the Hardware Configuration section.
  4. Enable two-way messaging and save your changes.

The device must also be capable of sending and receiving text messages, and be provisioned for this service.

Viewing a record of messages sent and received

The Reports tab includes a Two Way Messages report, which can be run for a specified date range or scheduled to run automatically.
