How do I set up takeoff and landing events on my DZMx?

Takeoff and landing events can be triggered either from the aircraft's speed or from a switch wired into the unit. Which one suits you depends on the aircraft.

Method 1, using aircraft speed

This is the simplest method and works well for fixed wing aircraft.

  1. In DZMx Connect, go to Settings, then Triggered.
  2. Set a speed just below the aircraft's takeoff speed, and a speed just below its landing speed.

Speed based triggering is not suitable for helicopters. It produces false takeoff and landing reports while the aircraft is hovering.

Method 2, using a switch input

This is the recommended method for helicopters.

  1. Wire a collective switch, or a squat switch (also called weight on wheels), to one of the general purpose inputs on the unit.
  2. On the control head, go to MENU, then Hardware Config, then Input Configuration.
  3. Select the Takeoff Switch function and set the Input Designation to the input you have wired.
  4. Set the Input Type to either Collective Switch or Squat Switch, depending on which is fitted.

Configure the inputs on the control head rather than in DZMx Connect. The head shows the state it reads from each input in real time, so you can operate the switch and confirm it is reading the right way round, correcting the selected condition if it reads inverted.

Hover reporting depends on this method as well. It cannot be enabled on an installation that triggers from aircraft speed alone.
