How do I switch my ISAT-200A between telephone and PTT mode?

The ISAT-200A has two modes, dialing mode for telephone calls and PTT mode for push to talk. You switch between them from the CDP, under PTT Management on the Main Menu.

PTT is not enabled by default. It is set up for you by SKYTRAC, and the PTT Management menu will not appear until that has been done. Once it is set up, the ISAT-200A starts in dialing mode when powered on.

Switch to PTT

  1. From the Main Menu, select PTT Management.
  2. Select Switch to PTT.

To talk, press and hold the talk key, either on the aircraft audio panel or on the Iridium handset. A tone confirms you have the channel. Release the key when you have finished speaking.

Switch back to telephone

  1. From the Main Menu, select PTT Management.
  2. Select Switch to TELEPHONY.

Choose a talkgroup

While in PTT mode, select PTT Management > Select Talkgroup, choose the channel from the list, then press Enter.

What you can do in PTT mode

Telephone calls will not connect while the unit is in PTT mode. Your unit can optionally be configured to switch to dialing mode automatically when you place an outgoing call. Intercom calls work in both modes.

Position reporting during a call

While a telephone call or PTT transmission is in progress, the ISAT-200A cannot send position reports. Nothing is lost. They are queued in the unit and delivered once the call finishes, so you will see a gap in the track followed by several reports arriving together. This is expected, not a fault.

If the unit has been unable to send position reports for five minutes, the CDP shows ISAT DATA DELAY. During a long call this is expected, and it clears once the queued reports are sent.

Other options in the PTT Management menu

These appear only while the unit is in PTT mode.

  • Enable Caller ID and Disable Caller ID control whether the CDP shows who is speaking on the PTT channel.
  • PTT Audio Settings sets Mic Volume, Voice Volume, Tone Volume and Sidetone Volume, each from 1 to 10.
What is required before PTT will work

PTT requires an ISAT-200A fitted with Mod J, ISAT-200A firmware 00.19.33 or higher, and CDP firmware 06.03.05 or higher.

It also has to be configured on both the aircraft and the network side, including the talkgroups themselves. Please contact our support team to arrange it.
